7th Edition of Young Mayor Competition 2018 Revision

As we enter 2018, we are revamping the competition series and taking it to the next level. Over the years, we have seen much success in the competition template; which consists of technical sharing on urban planning, leadership team-building by us and then followed by a written submission, live presentation and model making by participants. By volume, we have seen some 5000 participants involved in various aspects of the competition series with representation in Singapore (400 local and international teams) and ASEAN (100 international teams coming to Singapore). By quality, we have been commissioned by local city authorities such as Office of the Mayor of Manila (ex President Joseph Estrada), Iskandar Regional Development Authority in Malaysia, Yangon Heritage Trust, Phnom Penh City hall and more. We have a sterling batch of  trainers, speakers, judges and panelists, from ambassadors, high commisioners, professional architects, engineers, urban planners and academic professors. We have collaborated and are supported by professional bodies such as Centre for Liveable Cities, Urban Land Institute, BBC Knowledge. Corporate partnerships with eminent companies such as Singapore Airlines, Lafarge, Procter & Gamble, BNP Paribas were established too. By and large, we have created a good momentum for the study of cities, place-making and community building. Of particular highlight is the exposure of students to the built environment and career progression in areas such as environmental management, land estate planning, community development, capacity building and real estate marketing. At a young age, the study of the humanities opens up much possibilities in the future.

For 2018, we will be charting a new direction, principally in pursuing a year long case study based assignment, which each individual school team undertaking research, field trips and coming up with proposals for vetting. Teams can either engage our service or undertake this on their own but have to register their teams with us to be included in the vetting process for submission to the in-country governmental Authority for selection and exhibition. In 2017, we have been working with Brunei Darussalam and have inroads in many aspects of their new economy and diversification strategy. We will work with Brunei Economic Development Board, Darussalam Enterprise and Universities in Brunei on vetting process of the proposals. More details will be published in the About section of the our official blog
